Calgary’s Cascade Swim Club top team at 2017 Speedo Western Championships

CALGARY- Calgary’s Cascade Swim Club placed first in the combined team standings as the 2017 Speedo Western Championships swimming competition concluded on Sunday at the Repsol Sports Centre.

Cascade earned 1,933.5 points with Edmonton Keyano second at 1,574.5 and the University of Calgary Swim Club third at 1,408.

Kyla Leibel of Red Deer, Alta., collected her fourth gold medal with a victory in the 50-m freestyle in the girls 13 and over age group. Bailey Herbert of Langley, B.C., took the 200-m individual medley and Josie Field of Langley was first in the 200-m butterfly.

There were three first time champions in the girls 16 and over. Kate Rendall of Calgary took the 200-m butterfly, Sarah Watson of Winnipeg won the 50-m freestyle and Lauren Teghtsoonian of Winnipeg was first in the 200-m IM.

Winners in the boys 14 and over were Alexander Katelnikoff of Calgary in the 1500-m freestyle, Tyler Wall of Penticton, B.C., in the 50-m freestyle and Finlay Knox of Okotoks, Alta., in the 200-m IM

In the boys 17 and over winners were Anders Klein of Edmonton in the 200-m fly, Kyle Troskot of Kamloops, B.C., in the 50-m freestyle and Alexander Blaskovich of Surrey, B.C., in the 1500-m free.
