Mack Darragh places second in 200-m butterfly at Pro Swim Series

DES MOINES, Iowa – Olympian Mack Darragh of Swimming Canada’s High Performance Centre – Ontario won the silver medal in the men’s 200-m butterfly on Thursday at the second stop on the Pro Swim Series circuit.

Alex Kunert of Germany took top spot in one minute and 57.80 seconds. Darragh was fifth at the halfway mark but registered the fastest final length to clock 1:58.64. Luiz Melo of Brazil was third in 1:58.98.

Darragh, a 25-year-old from Oakville, Ont., was a finalist in 2018 at the Pan Pacific Championships and Commonwealth Games and lowered his Canadian record in the 200 fly in Tokyo.

Kayla Sanchez, also from HPC-Ontario, took fifth in the 50-m backstroke and sixth in the 100-m freestyle. Also for the women, Emma O’Croinin of Edmonton was fifth in the 1500-m freestyle, Kierra Smith of Kelowna, B.C. fifth in the 100-m breaststroke and Kennedy Goss of Toronto eighth in the 400-m freestyle.

Jeremy Bagshaw of HPC-Victoria was sixth in the men’s 400-m freestyle.

Competition continues through to Saturday.
