Brittany’s Bio

  • At her second Olympic Games, MacLean swam the third leg of the 4×200-m freestyle relay that won a bronze medal and broke the Canadian record. She also finished 10th overall in the 400-m freestyle, 5th in the 800-m freestyle and 10th in the 200-m freestyle.
  • At the 2016 Olympic & Para-swimming Trials in Toronto, MacLean earned her second Olympic Games berth in record-setting fashion. MacLean won the 200-m, 400-m and 800-m freestyle events, setting Canadian records in the 200 and 400 to go with her previously set national marks in the 800 and 1,500.
  • After suffering an injury earlier in the year, MacLean finished in fourth place in the 800-m freestyle at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games. She swam the anchor lap in the 4×200-m freestyle with teammates Emily Overholt, Alyson Ackman and Katerine Savard, bringing home a bronze medal.
  • MacLean won her first major international medals in 2014, stepping on the podium
    with a bronze medal in the 800-m freestyle at Commonwealth Games. MacLean also helped the 4×200-m relay to a silver medal in Glasgow.
  • At Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Australia, she took bronze in the 800-m and 1,500-m freestyle and in the 4×200-m relay joined with Sam Cheverton, Alyson Ackman and Emily Overholt for a bronze medal.
  • Swimming Canada’s Female Swimmer of the Year for 2014.
  • MacLean made a big splash in her first Olympic appearance in 2012, qualifying for finals in the women’s 400-metre freestyle in London.
  • The then 18-year-old finished seventh in that event, and was also part of Canada’s fourth-place team in the 4×200-m freestyle relay.
  • Swimming Canada’s 2012 Junior Female Swimmer of the Year
  • Outstanding 2014 NCAA Women’s Division I Championships, where she broke NCAA records to win the 500-yard and 1,650-yard freestyle races, and was named Swimmer of the Year by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Her efforts contributed to one of three team championships she won with the University of Georgia Bulldogs. (2013, 2016)
