Danial’s Bio

• At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Murphy competed in three events. His best result was 13^th in the 200-m freestyle.

• Murphy reached five finals and set Canadian records in the 50-m freestyle and 50-m butterfly at the 2015 Toronto Parapan Am Games. Also a member of the 4×50-m 20 pt. relay that won a bronze medal.
• He swam four events at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
• At the 2015 Speedo Can Am Para-swimming Championships in Toronto, Murphy reached the podium five times, including claiming gold in the 50-metre backstroke.
• He also lowered his Canadian records in the 50-m butterfly, 200-m freestyle and 100-m freestyle.
• In 2014 at the Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships in Pasadena, Calif., he earned bronze medals in the 200-m freestyle and 50-m backstroke. He broke the Canadian record in his category in the 200-m free as well as the 100-m backstroke and helped Canada to a national mark in the 4×50-m medley relay.
• At the 2013 IPC World Championships in Montreal, the freestyle specialist competed in four events. He reached two finals, placing seventh in the 100-m freestyle and eighth in the 200-m freestyle.
• He made his international debut in Rio de Janeiro at the 2009 IPC World Championships (25m), challenged the world once again at the 2010 IPC World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands and was once again on Team Canada for the 2010 Para Pan Pacs in Edmonton.
• Murphy has cerebral palsy.
• He started swimming at age nine after trying several Other sports and got into the sport very seriously at age 13.
