Nathan’s Bio

  • At his second Paralympic Games, Stein made the final in all three of his events. His best result being a 5th place finish in both the 100-m butterfly and 50-m freestyle. Stein also finished 7th in the 100-m freestyle.
  • Reached the podium twice in the multi-class events at the Olympic and Para-swimming Trials. Won the 50-m freestyle with a time that ranked fifth in the world to qualify for his second Paralympic Games. Was second in the 100-m free.
  • Stein won four medals at the Parapan Am Games: Silver in the 100-m butterfly, bronze in the 50-m freestyle and 100-m freestyle and was a member of the 4×100-m 34 pt. freestyle relay that won silver in a Canadian record time.
  • Earlier in the summer, he won bronze medals in the 50-m and 100-m freestyle at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. He also finished 5th in the 100-m butterfly.
  • At the 2015 Speedo Can Am Para-swimming Championships in Toronto Stein won the 50-metre and 100-m freestyle plus was second in the 100-m butterfly.
  • Less then a week later Stein finished third in the 50-m freestyle at the British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow.
  • In 2014, at the Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships in Pasadena, the biggest event of the year for Canadian Para-swimmers, Stein won two medals, lowering Ben Huot’s Canadian record in both. In the 100-m butterfly he took the gold and he added a silver in the 100-m freestyle.
  • In 2014, Stein won Swimming Canada’s Male Para-swimmer of the Year.
  • At the 2012 Paralympic Trials he challenged Canadian star Benoit Huot in several events and took the gold in Canadian record time in the 50-m freestyle.
  • At the London Paralympic Games, Stein won the silver medal in the 50-m freestyle in Canadian record time, was fifth in the 100-m freestyle and ninth in the 100-m butterfly.
  • While he struggled at times in 2011, he put a solid cap on that swimming season with a bronze medal performance in the 100-m breaststroke at the Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships .
  • When he was 12, Stein was diagnosed with osteochondritis discans (OD) a condition that has required 11 surgeries on his leg.
