TAIPEI, Taiwan – Sarah Darcel put up a time of 2:12.66 in the semifinal of the women’s 200-m individual medley to advance to Wednesday’s final at the FISU Summer Universiade in Taipei, Taiwan.

Darcel entered Tuesday’s semifinal as the fastest qualifier in the field with a time of 2:13.20. The High Performance Centre – Victoria swimmer from Grande Cache, Alta., improved on her time in her evening swim. She trailed only a pair of Japanese swimmers, Miho Teramura (2:12.41) and Yui Ohashi (2:12.17), to enter Wednesday’s final as the third fastest qualifier.

“Overall, I was pretty happy with my prelim and semi for the 200-m IM, especially coming off the 400 IM which helped me acclimatize to the environment and the overall atmosphere of an event like this,” said Darcel. “I’m feeling pretty confident heading into the final and I know there’s a couple things I can brush up on for tomorrow night.”

Montreal’s Alexia Zevnik was back in action on Tuesday competing in the women’s 100-m backstroke semifinal after a silver medal performance in the 200-m back yesterday. Zevnik swam a time of 1:00.62 and qualified as the fourth fastest competitor heading into Wednesday’s final.

Katerine Savard of Pont-Rouge, Que., narrowly missed the podium in the women’s 100-m freestyle. Savard touched the wall in 54.98 and finished the event 4^th, falling short of the bronze medal by 0.09 seconds. Savard trailed the Russian Arina Openysheva (54.89) for third while Russia’s Mariia Kameneva (54.37) took silver and China’s Siobhan Haughey (54.10) won gold.

Bailey Andison of the Perth Stingrays Aquatic Club competed in the women’s 200-m IM and finished 10^th with a time of 2:15.28.

Eli Wall of Toronto Swim Club placed 11^th in the men’s 200-m breaststroke with a time of 2:13.29. Newmarket, Ont., native Danielle Hanus of HPC-Victoria finished 16^th in the women’s 100-m backstroke with a time 1:02.64.
