Canadian record for Gord Michie at Para swimming World Series

INDIANAPOLIS – Gord Michie of St. Thomas, Ont., placed third in his 100-m butterfly race in Canadian record time on Saturday to conclude the second stop on the Para swimming World Series circuit.

Michie, competing in the S14 Sport Class, clocked 1:01.43. Lawren Sapp of the U.S. was the winner in 1:00.14 and Junho Ko of South Korea second in 1:00.82.

‘’I went into this meet with a lot of confidence,’’ said Michie. ‘’I worked really hard in my swims for sure. The 100 fly was my favorite of the weekend because I went a best time and got the Canadian record.’’

Alec Elliot of Waterloo, Ont., was first in the S10 race in 58.79 and Zach Zona of Waterford, Ont., second in the S8 100 fly.

In the women’s 100-m butterfly, Angela Marina of Brantford, ON., won the S14 race 1:10.32. Miori Henault of St Eustache, QC was fourth.

‘’I was very happy with my performance tonight,’’ said Marina, who broke three Canadian records this weekend. ‘’My technique was really good and I was closer to my best time. I had been having trouble with that race lately.’’

In the 100-m freestyle, Zona added a silver in 1:04.42 while Jonathan Dieleman of Smithers, BC was fourth in the S5 race.
