Victories for Oleksiak and Anderson at Atlanta Swimming Classic

ATLANTA – Penny Oleksiak of Toronto and Olivia Anderson of Oakville, Ont., each won a gold medal Sunday to conclude the Atlanta Swimming Classic.

In the women’s 100-m freestyle, Oleksiak, the reigning Olympic champion in the event, was first in 55.13 seconds. Stanzi Moseley of the U.S. was second in 56.26 and her compatriot Amanda Weir third in 56.48.

It was Oleksiak’s second victory and third medal of the competition. On Saturday she won the 200-m butterfly and was third in the 100 fly on Friday.

It was a heated battle in the women’s 800-freestyle as Anderson prevailed in 8:42.79. Courtney Harnish of the U.S. was second in 8:42.89 and Amanda Nunan of the U.S. third in 8:48.17.

James Guest of Pointe-Claire, Que., a triple medallist this weekend, was fifth in the 200-m individual medley.
