SHEFFIELD, England – Paralympic champion Aurélie Rivard of Swimming Canada’s High Performance Centre-Quebec  won her second medal Friday with a silver in the women’s 50-m freestyle at the fifth stop on the Para swimming World Series circuit.

Sophie Pasco of New Zealand was the victor in 27.75, Rivard followed in 28.00 and Hannah Russell of Britain took third spot.

The races on the World Series circuit are multiclass therefore the ranking is based on which swimmer is closest to the world record in their disability category.

‘’It was a frustrating race for me,’’ said Rivard, also a silver medallist Thursday in the 100-m freestyle. ‘’I was really hoping to go faster especially that my goal was to go under 28.00. My start needs to improve because I’m not as fast off the blocks as usual.’’

Tess Routliffe, also of HPC-Quebec, neared her personal best in the women’s 200-m individual medley. She posted the fastest time for her S7 disability category but did not crack the medals overall.

Routliffe, from Caledon, Ont., clocked 3:04.28 in the morning and then 3:02.83 in the final.

‘’I haven’t even come close to those times since the Rio Paralympic Games,’’ said Routliffe. ‘’It was a big shock to see that in the prelims since we are not fully prepared. But I used that as motivation in the final and I was able to better that.’’

On Thursday, Routliffe lowered her Canadian record in the S7 100m breaststroke clocking 1:34.59.

‘’With the high level of competition here you really have to focus on your racing,’’ she said. ‘’It’s really been giving me a lot of motivation.’’

Competition continues through to Sunday.
