Aurélie’s Bio

  • At the 2023 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Rivard captured multi-class gold medals in the women’s 100-m and 400-m freestyle, as well as silver in the 50 free. Her performance qualified her for the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships team in Manchester, England.
  • Rivard was named Swimming Canada’s 2022 Female Swimmer of the Year (Paralympic Program), meriting the recognition for a record sixth time.
  • Aurélie Rivard won five medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, making it a total of 10 Paralympic medals across three Games. Rivard won Canada’s first gold medal in Tokyo and broke the world record in the women’s 100-m freestyle S10, she also defended her Paralympic title and won gold in the women’s 400-m freestyle S10 in world record time.
  • At the same event, Rivard captured silver in the 100-m backstroke S10 in a personal best time and earned bronze in the 50-m freestyle S10 and the 4×100-m freestyle relay (34 points). Rivard also broke the Canadian record and finished fourth in the women’s 200-m individual medley SM10.
  • At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Rivard impressed the world with gold medals in the 50-, 100-, and 400-m freestyle and silver in the 200 IM.
  • All four times were Canadian records, including two world records (50/400 free), and a Paralympic record (100 free).
  • She contributed to Canadian record 5th-place finishes in the 4×100 medley relay and 34pts 4×100 freestyle relay.
  • Rivard was Canada’s flag-bearer for the closing ceremonies of the Paralympic Games.
  • At the Madeira 2022 World Para Swimming Championships, Rivard won gold in the 50-m freestyle S10. After dealing with a medical issue in the 400-m freestyle S10, Rivard bounced back to defend her title and won gold in the 100-m freestyle S10. She also earned bronze in the 100-m backstroke S10 and was a member of the Canadian record-breaking 4×100-m freestyle 34 points relay that placed 8th.  With 17 medals Aurélie Rivard became the all-time most decorated Canadian woman at the World Para Swimming Championships.
  • At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Rivard captured silver in the 200-m individual medley S10.

  • At the London 2019 World Para Swimming Championships, Rivard claimed five medals (2-1-2), including gold in the 50- and 100-m freestyle S10, silver in the 400-m freestyle S10, and bronze in the 100-m backstroke S10 and the 4×100-m freestyle relay 34 points. She also helped the 4×100-m medley relay 34 points to a fourth-place finish. The haul brought her career total to 14 medals (4-6-4) in four world championship appearances. Thanks to her performances, she was nominated to the Canadian Paralympic Committee to represent the country at Tokyo 2020.
  • At the 2018 Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships in Cairns, Rivard won the 50 and 100 freestyle and broke her world record to win the 400-m freestyle.
  • At the same event, Rivard earned silver in 100 backstroke and 200 IM. She was also a member of the women’s 4×100-m freestyle and 4×100-m medley relay that took home bronze.
  • At the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Rivard earned a silver in the 200 IM.
  • At the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Rivard won three gold medals in as many multi-class finals, winning the 50, 100 and 400-m freestyle.
  • At the 2022 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials, Rivard won a multi-class gold medal in the 100-m freestyle. She captured silver in the 50-m freestyle multi-class and 200-m IM multi-class and earned bronze in the 100-m backstroke multi-class. Her performances qualified her for both the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
  • At the 2017 Berlin World Para Swimming World Series, Rivard set a world record in the S10 200-metre freestyle, giving her the world records in the 50, 100, 200 and 400 free.
  • Rivard was amongst the finalists for the 2016 Lou Marsh Award that included Penny Oleksiak, Sidney Crosby, Andre De Grasse, Milos Raonic, Brooke Henderson and Derek Drouin.
  • Rivard won Swimming Canada’s Female Swimmer of the Year (Paralympic Program) for three consecutive years (2014-2016) and again in 2019 and 2021.
  • Rivard won a record seven medals, six of them gold, and set a world record in the 100 freestyle at the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games.
  • She earned two gold medals and set a pair of Canadian records at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, winning the 50-m freestyle and 400-m freestyle. She also finished second in the 200-m IM and the 100-m freestyle.
  • At the 2013 IPC World Championships in Montreal, Rivard was the only Canadian to win five medals (three silver and two bronze).
  • Rivard made her first major international breakthrough at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, at age 16. She won the silver medal in the 400 freestyle and reached finals in four other events.
